The District at Skycity in Adelaide to launch Battle of the Bands
August 31, 2021

Adelaide entertainment venue, The District at Skycity has announced that it will launch South Australia's biggest Battle of the Bands this October, with entries now open and generous prizes on offer.

The District, partnering with Pirate Life, is offering unsigned musicians a platform to perform in what’s been an incredibly testing time for the live music industry.

Bands will compete across five Friday nights commencing 8th October, with the winner crowned at the Grand Final on 5th November.

The District Battle of the Bands winner will receive $10,000 cash, a three-month residency valued at $5,000 and a tailored Pirate Life brew named after the act.

The coveted residency is set to be a huge drawcard for unsigned acts, enabling them to perform on the same stage where The Superjesus played a sell-out show in April.

South Australian Superjesus lead singer, Sarah McLeod enthused “What a killer venue The District is! The sound in there is amazing, it’s pounding! I’d play there again in a heartbeat!”

The District at SkyCity, Australia’s first fully functional brewery within a casino, officially opened to the public late last year with a free concert by South Australian indie pop rock sister band, Germein.

The District venue manager, Jarrad Anderson added “we thought it was fitting to welcome a District regular, Germein frontwoman Georgia Germein, to be part of the judging panel for Battle of the Bands.

“The challenges presented to the entertainment industry that relies on live events has put them in a position of real concern, but we’re chuffed to not only host live local acts at The District multiple times each week, but expand on this by introducing Battle of the Bands to this killer venue.”

Georgia Germein will be joined by Ed Trainor, among others, on the Battle of the Bands judging panel.

Trainor, who books some of the state’s best established and emerging acts via his business Wasabi Entertainment advised “In almost two decades working in the industry, I’ve never seen anything rock the live music community like the impact of COVID-19 over the past 18 months.

“The District and Pirate Life are providing a great opportunity to bring Battle of the Bands back to life and inject some competitive fun, along with generous prizes, to winners. This is no ordinary event – Adelaide’s finest unsigned talent will be performing to claim the highly sought-after Battle of the Bands title!”
