Sunshine Coast Council is supporting Planet Ark’s National Tree Day this Sunday (29th July) with tree planting events taking place in Coolum Beach and Pelican Waters.
Over the last 22 years, National Tree Day has resulted in more than 24 million trees being planted across Australia and Planet Ark is aiming to add another million trees to the nation-wide tally this year.
Sunshine Coast Councillor Jenny McKay said organisers were hoping to collectively plant 4,500 trees at the two Sunshine Coast sites on Sunday.
Councillor McKay explained “we’re very lucky here on the Sunshine Coast to have an incredible network of community groups and landcare organisations that work with council to enhance our natural environment every day, but we’re also calling on locals who would like to get their hands dirty to come and join these wonderful events this weekend.
“National Tree Day is a really fulfilling opportunity to do something good for our environment and benefit from positive health and wellbeing outcomes.
“In addition to tree planting, each site offers a range of extra activities including free BBQs, face painting and even live music so there’s something for everyone to come and enjoy.”
“We would like to thank Coolum & North Shore Coast Care, Coolum Lions Club, Caloundra Lions Club and Caloundra Rotary Club for supporting the event.”
Gloves, plants and equipment for planting will be provided for all registered participants.
