The Sunnybank Performing Arts Centre, an all-new $10 million venue in Brisbane’s southern suburbs, has hosted its first event with performances by the Taiwanese Jungli Youth Orchestra.

A joint venture between the Brisbane City Council and the Sunnybank Rugby Union Club Ltd, who each contributed $5 million to the development, ‘SunPAC’ features a 300-seat theatre, a rehearsal room, box office and underground parking.

Looking forward to the new venue’s role in the cultural landscape of Brisbane, Executive Producer Sarah Boon told Quest Newspapers “SunPAC offers the communities of Sunnybank and surrounds the opportunity to see arts and cultural activity not far from their front door.

“As well as exploring the cultural diversity of our neighbourhood, we are also interested in the connections between sports/physical activities and performance experiences.”

SunPAC’s program will include youth, family and festivals, with a ‘Live @ SunPAC’ dining and vent program being explored.

Brisbane Councillor Steven Huang said SunPAC would be a new landmark venue for the southside, adding “this world class theatre not only provides the southside community a place to enjoy cultural performances but it can also be used for events such as exhibitions and weddings.

“I look forward to SunPAC becoming the southside’s new cultural hub that will bring vibrant new opportunities to benefit the local community.”

A free open community day is to be held on Saturday 15th October including indoor and outdoor stages with entertainment, international cuisine with the food trucks and a backstage tours.
