Still no reopening date for troubled Elizabeth Quay aquatic playground
While work to upgrade filtration systems at the troubled Elizabeth Quay water park in Perth has been completed, no date has been set for the reopening of the $13 million facility.
The park was closed in February, just weeks after its official launch, because of ongoing problems with water contamination.
In May, an investigation by Western Australia’s Building Commission investigation found serious problems with plumbing at Elizabeth Quay, including wrongly sloping pipes and the failure to fit critical non-return valves.
In the same month, the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA) told a Budget Estimates hearing the upgrading work would cost an estimated $200,000, with the park expected to reopen sometime in June.
The MRA said the upgrade work had been finished, and the new system was going through a testing phase.
However, no date has been set for when the park will reopen to the public.
An opening date is expected to be announced after the WA Health conducts its own testing and monitoring of the system.
