read moreSet to open tomorrow (1st May), the first Sky Zone indoor trampoline arena in the Southern Hemisphere will not only be the largest trampoline facility in Australia but will also introduce SkyFit, an innovative trampoline-based fitness program.
Having changed the face of tenpin-bowling in Australia with the Strike chain of bowling alleys, Director Michael Schreiber is introducing the Sky Zone concept from the USA where the franchise operates 50 arenas in 21 states.
In Australia, Schreiber already has plans to open three further arenas in inner city locations in Brisbane and Sydney at locations capable of sustaining high traffic volumes.
With the right locations, Schrieber aims to attract a young, active clientele, recalling that “when we started Strike bowling centres we reached a new market for bowling, attracting 18 to 35 years olds.”
He believes that he can attract this new market to his Sky Zone arenas.
As first reported in the March/April 2014 issue of Australasian Leisure Management, Sky Zone will also offering be offering SkyFit, a trampoline-based fitness program developed by former Fit n Fast executives Nicole Monteforte and Shane Byrne.
As Schreiber states “on a trampoline you can burn 1,000 calories an hour - in an environment where exercise is disguised as entertainment.”
Monteforte explains that training in an ‘unstable’ environment, such as on a trampoline, engages and incorporates core and stabilising muscles far more effectively than a standard gym workout.
Byrnes adds “this makes (training on trampolines) a very effective way of training and confirms it as one of the most effective ways to work out.
“Plus it’s incredibly fun.”
All SkyFit fitness programs will be fully accredited, providing any instructor who becomes part of the program with 5 CEC points.
SkyFit will also be offering a Personal Training Program for PTs who are looking for a new way to help clients achieve their goals.
