SAPIA awards sport and recreation construction excellence

The Sports and Play Industry Association (SAPIA) has announced the winners of its 2017 Industry Awards, presented at its annual Conference at Sanctuary Cove earlier this month.

Supporting the Association's goal of promoting excellence in sports and recreation construction, maintenance, surfacing and servicing as well as product innovation, the Award program recognises the work of SAPIA members who are participating in achieving this goal, and provides members with the opportunity to celebrate their work.

The 17th year of the Industry Awards competition saw a record number of entries, with the winners being:

S1. Construction of Sports Courts (Commercial)
Winner: Jordin Sports Surfaces

Project: Sheldon College, Queensland
Construction of 6 international sized hardcourts and 4 cricket practice nets.

S2. Construction of Sports Courts (Domestic more than $100,000)

Construction of synthetic grass tennis court and cricket pitch.

S3. Construction of Sports Courts (Domestic less than $100,000)

Construction of acrylic tennis court.

S4. Construction of Sports Facilities
Winner: Dalton Consulting Engineers

Project: St Kevin's Tooronga, Victoria
Design and project manage construction of multi sports project including football, AFL, cricket, athletics track, basketball, hockey, tennis etc

Synthetic grass surfacing across multi-levels of new school, including chess boards, running track, handball courts, maze and pyramids.

New regional sports centre and indoor training facility featuring 12 FIBA certified Level 2 Comp high mounting level Basketball Backstops, 4 high level mounted courts dividing curtains, Netball, Volleyball, Badminton and Futsal courts, 6 court scoreboard/shotclock system.

Surfaced using a total of 361m² of Rosehill TPV® Rubber Wetpour to create a playground that gave the impression of water.

TPV wet pour surfacing in fit out of an internal playspace, designed to give the impression of cushioning on the terraced seats.

Project: St Kevin's Tooronga Sports Fields, Victoria
Transforming a redundant quarry, brickworks and carpark into first class sporting facilities required many challenging and unique design challenges that had to be overcome. The site required complex engineering solutions from both the engineers and the turf suppliers.
