SA Government to restructure State tourism board
The South Australian Government has accepted a recommendation from the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) board to restructure the organisation.
South Australian Tourism Minister Gail Gago said she had asked the board to consider options for reform to better leverage opportunities that promote and support tourism.
Minister Gago also asked the board for recommendations to achieve an additional $1.2 million per year in savings, as required by the mid-year budget review, stating "the board has unanimously recommended changes to the organisation that I believe will not only produce savings, but also lead to a revitalised operational structure for SATC.
"Earlier today (Thursday 1st March) the board and I recommended to the Governor that the current Chief Executive position be restructured, and that a new part-time Chief Executive be appointed to create efficiencies within the commission and drive the savings target.
"Jane Jeffreys has been appointed in a part-time capacity to steer SATC through the reform process while continuing to serve as chair.
"These interim arrangements are intended to be in place for no more than 12 months.
"Ms Jeffreys has extensive experience working with boards and senior management teams. She is well placed to undertake these roles.
"I would like to thank the outgoing Chief Executive for his hard work and commitment to the tourism sector in South Australia and I wish him well in his future endeavours.
"I would also like to reassure tourism operators that the Government remains committed to supporting and promoting this major industry."
