The document was released at Recreation SA’s 2016/17 Aquatic Season launch at the Aquatic Recreation Centre, Campbelltown.
With more than 60 people in attendance, guest speaker, swimming coach Peter Bishop, shared insights about Kyle Chalmers’ Olympic Gold medal-winning perfornmance and tips on how to keep emerging swimming stars engaged with the sport.
A film promoting the Code of Practice can be viewed on YouTube.
The launch was also an opportunity for Recreation SA to thank all members who support and uphold the safety ideals of the Watch Around Water program.
A statement from Recreation SA advised that “developing a greater awareness of the Watch Around Water ideals within the community will impact the behaviour of children, adults and families around water.”
Developed over seven years, the Code of Practice for Public Swimming Pools in South Australa was developed with the support of the South Australian Office for Recreation & Sport.
The Board of Recreation SA is grateful to Pania Rawlins and Rebecca Deans for their efforts in driving this project and thank the following members of the Code of Practice Committee for their support and assistance: Alistair Baird, Amanda Carmichael, Ben Grant, Catherine Foreman, Dael Redmond, Grant Watkins, AUSTSWIM, Julie Stevens, Kelly Lange, Kym A’Court, Nathan Byles, Paul Taylor, Samantha Wharton, Sarah McEwen, Nigel Dennis and Jarrod Manuel.
