Queensland events conference presents learning opportunities
October 31, 2013

With events in regional Australia growing in importance, Tourism and Events Queensland is to hold its Regional Events Conference over the next three days.

Being held at the Rydges Hotel, Townsville from 1st to 3rd November, the Tourism and Events Queensland Regional Events Conference will present the opportunity for industry professionals to learn from a range of tourism and events industry experts.

From the Coast to the Outback, Cairns to Coolangatta, events in Queensland include arts and music festivals, sporting competitionss, cultural celebrations, agricultural shows, business events and gourmet food and wine festivals.

With 'super' tourism body Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) formed at the end of 2012, Queensland Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Minister Jann Stuckey recently explained "tourism and events are intrinsically linked and going forward TEQ will be able to better leverage activities to grow visitor expenditure and ensure all efforts to attract visitors and events are focussed on achieving the best results and the greatest value for money for Queensland taxpayers."

In 2011/-12 major events in Queensland delivered a projected economic boost of $244.3 million while more than 1.1 million people attended the State's major events generating more than 1 million visitor nights for Queensland.

Conference speakers include Amanda Jackes of the Woodford Folk Festival; Mirko Roettgers, TEQ Digital Coach and Patricia OCallaghan of Townsville Enterprise Ltd.
