PCYC project on track for Port Macquarie

Plans for a new Police Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC) NSW on land at the Hastings Secondary College, Port Macquarie have been revealed.

NSW Education Minister Rob Stokes announced earlier this week that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed to examine the feasibility of building a new PCYC in Port Macquarie.

The proposed PCYC will be built on land at the Hastings Secondary College and will form part of an elite sports training academy.

Minister Stokes said he was please to support the proposal stating “if the feasibility study is successful, I see this as a win-win for the local community with a PCYC and a specialised sports facility in the same location.

“We have land available at the Campus and there is a need for a sporting social hub for young people in a safe environment with programs and activities that target the whole community.

“Plans for a PCYC in Port Macquarie were first proposed in 2012 as part of the Regional Stadium expansion.”

The proposed PCYC and Centre of Sporting Excellence would include a minimum of two basketball courts, a multi-purpose activity space for boxing, martial arts, group fitness and dance and elite gymnastics, ‘hang out spaces’ as well as PCYC Youth Command Offices and consultation rooms.  

A spokesperson for Hastings Secondary advised that “the integrated approach to this shared facility will ensure the Hastings Secondary College benefits from new sporting facilities and round-the-clock precinct activation.

“The Club will also reach out to the broader community to offer programs and facilities supporting health, activity and cohesion.”

The total cost of the facility is expected to be up to $13 million.
