read moreThe revitalisation of Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) facilities in NSW is continuing this week with the opening of a new facility on Parramatta’s George Street.
Having vacated its former Parramatta premises in Hassall Street at the end of August, PCYC NSW will now be offering expanded services at the new multi-storey facility which offers a 230 metre² gym with over 120 pieces of new equipment, an all new fully equipped two-ring boxing ring and combat sport area, a conditioning floor while also offering a range of fitness and related classes for all ages and skill levels.
Having sold its former premises, which it had occupied since 1962, for $31 million last year, the new PCYC Parramatta is part of the organisation’s strategy to provide modern facilities to meet the evolving needs of young people and the wider community.
The move to George Street is an interim step while PCYC finalises its desire to be located within the new Parramatta stadium precinct.
Commenting on the new facility, PCYC NSW Chief Executive Dominic Teakle explained “the new club building has activities across six levels, extra classes and spaces for young people and the public and full disabled access, including a lift.
“Moving from an aging building to more modern and expanded facilities only five minutes away is a great solution while work towards the stadium-based PCYC continues.
“We will be able to engage more staff and volunteers, as well as offer expanded places for university and TAFE students for work placement and training.
“This will be a fantastic facility to serve the young people and community of Parramatta.”
The new facility is enabling a doubling of its popular boxing program with two rings and a kickboxing area on the top level of the new club.
Below, on level four, a multipurpose studio offers fitness classes, martial arts, Pilates, boot camps, break dancing, Bollywood dancing, yoga and art and chess classes with negotiations underway for ballroom dancing.
The old club’s small gym and fitness rooms have been replaced by one whole floor of cardio and gym equipment on level three.
On level two, in addition to police officer rooms, PCYC Parramatta will, for the first time, have a dedicated youth drop-in area with games, chill-out and study areas, free Wi-Fi and television.
Level one contains meeting rooms for club and community use and the ground floor will include a lounge area and meeting room.
PCYC NSW opened a new facility at Dee Why on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in August and is due to open another facility at Waitara on Sydney’s North Shore in the coming weeks.
The Parramatta PCYC is at 107 George Street, Parramatta, NSW.
