NSW Coronavirus lockdown to last 90 days

NSW Coronavirus lockdown to last 90 days
April 2, 2020

Coronavirus lockdown restrictions are expected to last 90 days in NSW according to the state's Police Commissioner.

Speaking this morning, NSW Police Commissioner, Mick Fuller said the state will look to remove the restrictions after no more than three months.

He advised "there was a good question yesterday about when is the turn-off period for these health orders. It is 90 days.

"I certainly won't be seeking an extension and hopefully people will have gotten the message by then."

Commissioner Fuller's comments come after it was announced this morning that the number of COVID-19 cases in NSW has risen to 2,298.

Individuals can be hit with on the spot fines of $1,000 if found breaching distancing and isolation rules. The maximum penalty that can be handed out is an $11,000 fine and a six-month prison sentence.

Federal and State Governments are encouraging people to self-isolate as much as possible and to only leave the house for essential reasons, including work, shopping for food, exercise or to seek medical care.
