read moreIn advance of its hosting of the XIII FINA World Swimming Championships (25 metres) from 6th to 11th December, the Windsor Family Credit Union Centre in Ontario, Canada is being transformed from an ice hockey arena into a venue with a 25 metre x 26 metre competition pool with a depth of 2.1 metres.
As a multi-purpose entertainment complex the Centre offers a range of top class sports events, concerts and family shows, with Italian company Myrtha Pools now completing its transition into a swimming venue.
Myrtha, longstanding partners of world swimming body FINA, are installing a temporary 25 metre pool for the short-course wolrd championships which will be easily dismantled at the end of the event giving back the ice-arena to the hockey players.
Construction began after an ice-hockey game on 18th November and was completed as of 30th November in time for competition.
Also in Windsor, Myrtha Pools designed and installed three other permanent pools: a 25 metre six-lane warm-up pool lanes, a leisure pool and a spray pad featuring a beach entry ideal for children’s entertainment. Thanks to the quick and precise installation, the project has been completed two months in advance of the scheduled date resulting in huge cost savings.
Training sessions for the World Swimming Championships (25 m) will be hosted in the warm-up pool of the WFCU Centre and in the 71 metre pool of the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre (WIATC).
Located a few kilometres from the WFCU Centre, this state of the art facility features five pools designed and completed by Myrtha in 2012.
The 13th FINA World Swimming Championships are being preceded by the 4th FINA World Aquatics Convention, taking place from 3rd to 5th December 2016 at Caesars Windsor Resort and Convention Centre (Windsor, Canada).
