MSAC to get its FlowRider

MSAC to get its FlowRider
May 11, 2011

The Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) is to install a Wave Loch FlowRider artificial surf wave attraction, with the installation set to open in November.

Victorian State Sports Centre Trust (which manages MSAC) Chief Executive Simon Weatherill is known to have been keen to install a FlowRider for a number of years but had to prioritise additions for the 2006 Commonwealth Games and a wellness centre before being able to add to the Centre's water leisure attractions.

MSAC is to installation a FlowRider Double attraction on a site located between MSAC's outdoor lap (Commonwealth water polo) pool and Albert Park's Aughtie Drive.

The FlowRider surrounds will be designed to allow disabled access and a kiosk from which it will be managed.

Weatherill expects that "the FlowRider will be a big attraction for the youth and teenage market.

"We will program it like any program space with passes for off peak use and working on a fee per ride at peak hours."

Weatherill expects demand for the FlowRider to be high while the installation of a surf wave simulator at MSAC is expected to arouse wide industry interest.

The FlowRider design at MSAC will allow disabled access and will include a kiosk from which it will be managed.

Weatherill expects that "the FlowRider will be a big attraction for the youth and teenage market.

"We will program it like any program space with passes for off peak use and working on a fee per ride at peak hours."

The FlowRider is being installed by Whitewater West Australia with filtration from Pratts.
