A joint venture between Melbourne-based Mr Trampoline, Mt Buller and Mt Sterling Resort Management Board, The Olympic Winter Institute, Team Buller Riders and the Mt Buller Chamber of Commerce, the Buller Air Zone (BAZ) has been designed to enable off-snow aerial training for the Australian aerial and mogul skiers using high performance trampolines and overhead harness systems.
Opened last year, other groups of free skiers and boarders on the mountain also visit daily to hone their skills before venturing out to try new trick on the snow. In the summer months, visiting groups and teams use the facility as an alternative fitness session and mountain bikers also hone their skills in the safety of the BAZ facility.
BAZ also incorporates airbag activities including a climbing wall, balancing ridge, waterfall trampoline and a swivelling ‘possum’ ladder.
Advising on its development, Adam Richards from MrTrampoline states “BAZ had been a number of years in discussion (and, as of), early in 2018 all systems were go.
“In a relatively short period of time we had BAZ built and opened for the 2018 snow season and with a few tweaks during the recent summer season we now have BAZ fully operational and ready to fly for the Queen's Birthday opening for 2019.
"We had a lot of fun designing and developing the ideas for BAZ and input from all participants was invaluable.”
The venue is open to the public for use many weekends during summer and will be open every day during the upcoming winter season.
While there are times when a few high performance trampolines and harnesses are in use by the Olympic athletes other areas within BAZ will still be available for general use with the athletes adding great excitement and inspiration to other users in the venue.
