read moreThe Federal minimum weekly wage will increase by $18.70 per week ($0.50 per hour) to $640.90 per week ($16.87 per hour) from the first full pay period on or after 1st July 2014.
The change to the modern award will also see weekly wages rounded to the nearest 10 cents.
In an explanatory note to members, the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association (AALARA) explain that "if an Enterprise Agreement currently applies, the base rates should not be lower than those base rates in the relevant modern award and may also increase subject to the Agreement’s specific wording.
“This 1st July also marks the final Transitional wages and penalties phase. All minimum wages and penalties should now be equal to the modern award wages and penalties - subject to Award specific savings provisions.
“Interestingly the Fair Work Australia Minimum Wage Panel decided that the minimum wage increase for employees should be greater than that provided last year - 2.6% - on a number of economic and social factors, such as a sound economic outlook, GDP growth and inflation is expected to ease and growth in employment rates.”
