Swimplex Aquatics Pty Ltd undertook the $2 million dollar refurbishment that included a modernised 50 metre swimming pool from with disabled access from Myrtha Pools, a new Hidroplay® interactive splash park, new tiered spectator seating and a modernised entry/kiosk.
Bland Shire Council's architects, The Facility Design Group, designed the community-centred facility at a realistic cost including the Hidroplay® toddlers pool system to add vitality and vibrancy to the upgrade with its potential to bring custom to the pool during normally quite periods.
At the official reoping, hundreds of community members enjoying the new facilities with Bland Shire Council Community Services Acting Director Adele Casey stating "the community was absolutely wrapped about the whole thing, w had over five hundred people attend the opening."
Bland Shire Mayor Neil Pokoney added "this pool and the specifications have been accredited by FINA to the point that we are (able) to hold any state or national swimming championships here and any record so recorded would hold and be recognised by FINA (the governing body of world swimming)."
Casey added that the upgrade to West Wyalong's only pool has been a long time coming, explaining "they have been needed for a while, the original pool that we've replaced was built in 1936."
The upgrade work began in April this year, and despite delays due to wet weather, was completed by the end of November. On the eve of the reopening, damage to one of the ducks in the Hidroplay® splash park demanded that Swimplex's Head of Industrial Design, Daniel Leaver, accompanied by pilot Andrew Ellis, make an emergency 'duck dash' with a replacement.
In a testimonial, Bland Shire Council General Manager Ray Smith acknowledged Swimplex's "professional approach" adding "with regard to the financial aspects of this project, Council has found that the quoted price has been adhered to, and some savings have been found and passed on.
"The project has had minimal variations with Swimplex being more than fair in any changes that have been requested along the way."
