Les Mills collaborates with Hollywood actress Nina Dobrev to launch fresh new dance workout
Les Mills has teamed up with Hollywood actress Nina Dobrev to shape the special edition Reebok X Les Mills BOYDJAM workout ‘Dance #LIKENINA’.
Successful over many years, the BODYJAM workout explores and experiments with new movements, genres and movement styles of dance. The Dance #LIKENINA collaboration is a 40-minute, hip hop based workout in which two thirds is one big routine that participants must remember, rather than follow along.
Head Choreographer Gandalf Archer Mills says the secret to a great dance workout is experimentation and exploring new movements, advising “all the best classes have one thing in common - a connection to the feel of the music.
“I’ve gone through phases of trying to force movement into the music and vice versa, but if you don’t have an authentic connection to the music it can very quickly turn to crap.”
Speaking of his collaboration with Dobrev, he adds “I worked out the musical layer and some base choreography, and then I met with Nina and one of her friends one Monday night in LA.
“We went through my choreography slowly without music, and then through the whole workout once.
“Nina picked it up super-fast, she loved it. Soon her influence started coming through as she tweaked the moves to suit her own style - all of a sudden blocks of choreography weren’t so set and Nina’s small changes added a real freestyle feel.”
