read moreAfter 10 months of major renovations which have included new pools, changing rooms and a new roof, Wellington’s Keith Spry Pool has re-opened to the public.
The $6 million upgrade of the Johnsonville facility, has seen the former building grow by 50%, new learn-to-swim and play pools built inside a new glass extension, new changing rooms and the asbestos roof of the former building replaced by a steel structure.
The renovations are the first major improvements since the complex opened in 1982.
Welcoming the reopening, Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown explained “learning to swim is essential to enjoying many of New Zealand’s delights such as kayaking and scuba diving. Swimming itself is excellent exercise and the renovated pool and changing rooms will welcome everyone – beginners and athletes alike.”
Keith Spry Pool Manager Matt Kilgour added “Keith Spry has provided a long standing service for the Johnsonville community and these renovations have resulted in a facility the community can be proud of. I am very excited to see the community enjoying the new pool.”
Two new classes called Move and Improve and Masters Swimming have been added to the timetable along with the regular and highly popular Learn to Swim, Aqua Fit and school swimming.
