The IRONMAN Oceania team have advised that IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania will not be taking place in 2025, advising that they are “to review and look at options to make this race even better for the future”.

Having staged the mass participation endurance race in Hobart for the last two years, organisers say that they will evaluate the event’s future over the following 12 months before deciding its future.

Commenting on the removal of the race from the 2025 calendar, first announced on social media, Ironman Regional Director Carl Smith told Hobart’s The Mercury that “it definitely wasn't an easy decision” to call off the event, noting “ultimately it was all around timing and evaluating our calendar as a whole for 2025 looking at where the event sits into that.

“The decision was made we hibernate the event in 2025 and we take the next 12 months and evaluate how that calendar looks and how we’re shaping up for future years.

“We need to take some time to consult with stakeholders, consult with the community, consult with athletes and with our people internally to review all aspects of the event.”

Smith said while the race was highly regarded by the athletes it remained “one of the more challenging racecourses we have on the circuit”.

On social media IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania stated “we are hopeful that the event will return to the calendar in future years”, adding “we look forward to welcoming you back to the most southern IRONMAN 70.3 race in the world and those of you that have yet to take on the challenge - you can start your training now.”

TAS Triathlon greeted the news with “a heavy heart”, commenting on social media “we are grateful to Ironman for providing the opportunity here in Tasmania for the past 2 years and are hopeful for its return in the future.”
