One of the Sunshine Coast's leading visitor attractions, the Ginger Factory the tourism arm of Buderim Ginger - has joined the 'Do the Right Thing, Use the Right Bin' campaign, launching the installation of new recycling systems throughout the venue.

The new waste and recycling bins are the result of a joint venture between the Australian Food and Grocery Council's Packaging Stewardship Forum and Buderim Ginger Ltd. The recycling bins are expected to divert more than 15 tonnes of beverage containers from landfill annually equivalent to more than 600,000 small plastic drink bottles.

The new bins will now make it easier for over 400,000 visitors to the Ginger Factory each year to recycle. 10 permanent waste and recycling bin stations have been installed, carrying the national call to action to recycle, Do The Right Thing, Use The Right Bin.

Buderim Ginger General Manager Tourism, Corinne Mikkelsen explains that the attraction is committed to implementing best practice standards across its food manufacturing and tourism divisions, stating "we have received a number of accolades over the years for reducing our carbon footprint and will continue to implement innovative ways to minimise our impact on the environment."

PSF General Manager, Jenny Pickles, added "our research has shown that people want to be able to recycle 'away from home', just as they are already doing at home."

"The new recycling systems for the Ginger Factory are a great example of the types of proactive programs the beverage industry is undertaking to address the issue of packaging product stewardship."
