Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games headquarters gets official opening

Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games headquarters gets official opening
October 24, 2015

Queensland Minister for Education and Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Kate Jones has officially opened the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ (GC2018) headquarters at Ashmore.

The offices at TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Campus More will eventually be filled by more than 1,000 Games staff.

Opening the offices, Minister Jones stated “these headquarters are a hub for the planning and roll out of the Commonwealth Games.

“The offices currently have 338 workstations and 33 meeting rooms, each with WiFi and technology to support a sustainable and virtual meeting environment.

“The workspace has been designed around flexibility with the ability to grow and change significantly as Games time approaches.”

Stage one was completed in December 2014, stage two in late May, the most recent stage was finished in September while stage four refurbishment is due for completion mid-2016.

TAFE trades training facility continues to occupy a significant portion of the campus.

Gold Coast construction company Condev Constructions Pty Ltd has been the principal contractor for the refurbishment.

Minister Jones said the headquarters was just one of many GC2018 projects that are delivering outstanding employment outcomes, adding that “2,689 unique businesses have registered with the Embracing 2018 initiative, the Industry Capability Network (ICN), resulting in 17,826 expressions of interest against Commonwealth Games work packages.”

City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said GOLDOC was a valued employer for the Gold Coast.

Major Tate commented “GOLDOC is rapidly becoming one of the city’s larger employers which is further good news for our strengthening economy.”

Above ground work on the Parklands Project, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Village, is now well underway, with more than 1252 apartments and townhouses and a 5,700 metre² retail precinct.

During the Games, the  Village will accommodate up to 6,500 athletes and team officials.

Grocon Chief Executive Carolyn Viney said the Parklands Project – funded by Grocon, the Queensland Government, and investment partners – would be an exciting addition to the Gold Coast landscape.

Viney stated “this development is one of the most significant urban renewal projects ever undertaken on the Gold Coast.

“It shows our commitment to the South East Queensland real estate market and our confidence in it. Most importantly, it will provide lasting outcomes for many generations to come.”
