Fremantle Passenger Terminal to activate its space with rock concert

Fremantle Passenger Terminal to activate its space with rock concert
April 15, 2024

After recently hosting two major events during Fremantle Biennale, the heritage listed Fremantle Passenger Terminal is re-opening its expansive space to host legendary rock band Dirty Three for their first WA gig in 12 years.

Presented by Fremantle Arts Centre, Fremantle Ports and the City of Fremantle welcome instrumental trio Dirty Three back to Western Australia this winter as part of a national tour with a one-of-a-kind performance scheduled in Fremantle on Saturday 22nd June.

The Terminal is still part of the working port, welcoming cruise ship passengers throughout the year, but Fremantle Ports has found opportunities recently to activate the space for the community when operations allow, such as the James Cameron: In Conversation event initiated by the WA Maritime Museum.

Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said using the venue creates a unique opportunity for visitors to Fremantle and enthused "we are so excited about this iconic band coming to Fremantle. To experience such incredible musicians playing in the Passenger Terminal will bring back fond memories of the days when concerts were a regular occurrence at this venue.

"We greatly appreciate the willingness of our partners to throw open the doors of this iconic building and allow the public to enjoy what promises to be an unforgettable experience.”

Fremantle Ports Communications and Community Manager, Neil Stanbury added "the Terminal is a building with a unique suitability for select events and Fremantle Ports looks forward to considering others as our cruise and cargo commitments permit.”

Maritime Day 2024 will be held there on Saturday 2nd November.

Dirty Three formed as an instrumental rock trio in Melbourne in 1992, consisting of Warren Ellis on violin and bass guitar, Mick Turner on lead and bass guitars and Jim White on drums.

Warren Ellis is a prolific musician and long-time collaborator of Nick Cave, as integral part of The Bad Seeds and its more experimental spin-off Grinderman since 1996.

Already announced as a marquee act at Melbourne’s Rising Festival, Mick, Jim and Warren will bring highlights from an unparalleled catalogue plus new album Love Changes Everything to Fremantle.
