read moreFollowing industry consultation, Fitness Australia has this week moved to increase the professional standing of the industry by introducing an initiative called ‘Quality Assurance Employment’.
Described as first step towards closer alignment with allied health, by having a high standard for service delivery in AusREP registration, the Quality Assurance Employment initiative requires that all exercise professionals and personal trainers working within a Fitness Australia registered business must hold AusREP registration with Fitness Australia.
To kickstart the initiative, Fitness Australia is offering free transferable membership from any other organisation and will provide free membership to exercise professionals who are currently employed by a Fitness Australia registered business, by recognising any remaining period of their existing membership term with Physical Activity Australia, ESSA or FITREC.
A statement from Fitness Australia advises “the Quality Assurance Employment program provides businesses with the confidence and guarantees that their exercise professionals and employees are following industry best practice, protocols and guidelines.
“For exercise professionals and personal trainers, it provides industry credibility, ongoing support and access to continued learning.
“The Quality Assurance Employment AusREP registration is part of Fitness Australia’s Service Excellence Program that also includes the upcoming launch of AusREP Accreditation. Achieving accreditation demonstrates a higher level of service and commitment across four key pillars; Knowledge, Delivery, Experience and Validation. The AusREP Accreditation is voluntary and has no financial cost.”
To transfer another organisation’s membership to Fitness Australia, exercise professionals need to contact Fitness Australia directly and show their existing membership. Fitness Australia can support those transferring with complimentary education and the necessary associated CECs.
COVID-19 AusREP Relief Package
Looking to help members during COVID-19, Fitness Australia has introduced a reduced joining fee for exercise professionals looking to take advantage of a Fitness Australia AusREP registration.
For a limited time, AusREP membership is only $195 for two years (usually $275) or members ca choose a new 12 month option for only $125.
Fitness Australia Chief Executive, Barrie Elvish said the impact of COVID-19 had been devastating for the fitness industry and as the peak industry association it is important to support members as much as possible.
Elvish advised “the fitness industry has been impacted considerably throughout COVID-19, our Victorian members in particular are still feeling the full effects of closures. Fitness Australia is not only committed to advocating on behalf of the industry but also on supporting members with financial concessions where we can, to help them get back on track.
“Our commitment to our members and the broader community has never been stronger - the essential role gyms and fitness facilities play in our community cannot be underestimated and we need to ensure these businesses can survive these difficult times.”
