A group of campers has been fined for destructive and disruptive behaviour at the Mitchell River National Park.

Parks Victoria investigated the incident following reports from other campers.

A detailed and lengthy investigation led to the group of campers being fined for two infringements - camping in an area where camping is not permitted ($303) along with damage of anything constructed in a park ($758)

Parks Victoria Area Chief Ranger Lakes and Eastern Alps Jeremy Tscharke said it’s important for campers to respect the rights of their fellow campers.

Tscharke explained “people travel to the wilderness areas for peace, relaxation and to enjoy the beauty of the natural environment, so we are reminding all park visitors and campers to respect the rights of others and make sure they camp in designated areas, light campfires in designated fireplaces, and ensure music is not loud and is turned off at a reasonable hour so that other campers enjoyment is not impacted.”

Parks Victoria is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all park visitors and campers when travelling to State and National Parks.

Its rangers conduct regular compliance operations across all parks to ensure visitors are aware of the regulations and rules.
