read moreThe Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) is running a series of security and safety training workshops in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth to assist the exhibition and event industry in creating safe work places and planning for safe events.
EEAA Chief Executive Joyce DiMascio believes it is important that the exhibition and event sector is aware of the security, terror threat and risk climate within Australia.
DiMascio explains “at present, the nature of risk is changing. Exhibitions are places of mass gathering and our industry needs to be better equipped to prepare for and respond to the changing nature of risk.
“It's hard to come by tailored training for our sector. This workshop will fill that gap and give Industry the opportunity to up skill. You can never be complacent in this area.”
The full-day workshop will include an update on the current WHS safety environment and legislation changes presented by Marsh, covering:
• The overall current workplace health and safety legislation (WHS) environment in Australia
• Recent changes in WHS Legislation
• Recent case studies/prosecutions in the events industry
• Emerging safety issues/trends in the events Industry
• Importance of key WHS issues including mental health, fatigue management and bullying.
The events will also be addressed by leading global security and safety training consultant, Craig Sheridan, Managing Director, Sheridan Consulting Group who will cover:
• Types of risks
• Profile of behaviours
• How to prepare staff
• How to lock-down venues and respond
• How to develop safety and risk plans
• How to train staff to look-out for risk areas
• How to work with security and police
• How to manage stakeholders and media in the event of an incident
As an added benefit to attendees, registrations for this workshop will also include a two hour, one-on-one session with Sheridan who will review each company’s security and safety plan, to be arranged on another day.
DiMascio said EEAA was able to make this training available to industry through the support of Biz Better Together, an Australian Chamber initiative developed in partnership with the Department of Employment, Perth Convention Bureau and Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
She added “the support we have received to run these workshops shows us just how important and necessary this training is for our sector.
“This is an invaluable opportunity to work with a global leader and we invite industry to attend one of our security and safety training workshops. Places are limited so book quickly.”
