Dreamworld’s summer of screams
Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld has, for the first time ever, been opening its biggest rides, along with WhiteWater World’s slides and attractions, for after-dark parties on Friday nights during January.
At Australia’s only theme park with two attractions in one location, guests on Screamworld Slides & Rides nights can roam between WhiteWater World and Dreamworld’s Ocean Parade at night and kick back in the ‘Cave of Waves’ to watch some of Australia’s hottest artists perform live, before a nightly fireworks display.
Headlining the entertainment at Screamworld Slides & Rides have been performances by Sony artists Jai Waterford, Taylor Henderson and Marlisa, with Nathaniel set to perform on 23rd January.
With Dreamworld having opened its latest major ride, Tail Spin, in October, along with the new Triple Vortex waterslide at WhiteWater World, the current peak season has seen Dreamworld introduce a range of initiatives aimed at improving guest experiences.
Ardent Leisure Theme Parks Chief Executive Criaig Davidson explains “while we make continous investment in our rides and slides, over the past year we have set out to enrich the experience of our park guests, looking at the experiences that 'make people's day' when they visit our parks.
“We have identified a number of ‘touch points’ that our guests have highlighted add value to their in-park experience.
“One of the keys areas in which we are looking to differentiate ourselves from competitors is in guest comfort where we have set about providing more shaded seating and umbrellas along with cooling stations.
“Another has been in the management of queues while guests wait for our most popular rides.
“We have always featured pre-ride themeing and entertainment for our major rides, and have enhanced this with new video screens and content on Wipe Out and the new Tail Spin.”
"For this we use a common entertainment platform, Dreamworld TV that displays show and entry times, special offers and even the weather!”
Queue management has included improving the way in which staff engage with queues and reviewing the height management. Here, youngsters’ heights are measured when they arrive in the park and they are issued with colour coded bands specific to rides - with rides having match colour coded safety signage.
