read moreThe months of September, October and November will see the largest run of major events in Domain Stadium’s history.
During this period Perth Stadium Management will host more than a 250,000 for AFL finals, the WAFL Grand Final, WAFL Reserves Grand Final, RediMed Colts Grand Final as well as two AC/DC concerts, Fleetwood Mac, Stadium Stair Race and, for the first time in Western Australia, Monster Jam.
Perth Stadium Management General Manager Gavin Taylor says this is a great opportunity to showcase the capabilities of staff and services at Domain Stadium, and their ability to complete a record-breaking year of delivering great experiences to nearly 1.25 million fans.
This period will begin with back-to-back qualifying finals this weekend, with the West Coast Eagles playing Hawthorn on Friday 11th September and Fremantle Dockers playing Sydney Swans on Saturday 12th September.
Taylor explains “back-to-back games are unique and take an incredible effort and commitment to pull together, so we’ll call on our extensive experience, proven systems and 1,000 staff at each game to ensure we provide a memorable experience for everyone.
“This weekend there will be more than 11,000 combined man hours that will go into the preparation and delivery of each game.
“Our staff take care of everything from ensuring that the turf is in the best condition for players and meets the AFL standard; to preparing all the food and other catering, changing the signage and branding at each game and organising live entertainment inside and outside the grounds.
“It is our priority to ensure fans know they are going to have a good time from the minute they leave home until they leave the game.”
“Across these two games we expect to sell 36,000 cups of beer, four tonnes of chips and 24,000 pies and hot dogs in our 20 speciality food outlets that showcases the best of WA’s food produce. In addition, we have seven kitchens producing more than 7,000 corporate meals served across functions, suites and open boxes.
“It takes nearly 80 hours of labour to prepare the turf each week, with nearly 1 tonne of grass clippings taken from the mowing process. Nearly 50 litres of paint is used to mark the oval each week.
“The stadium has a capacity of 43,500 and will run with an expected occupancy rate of between 98-100% across the finals series, which is the best standard for Australian stadiums. We have an opportunity to show that we still deliver our best even when we have a full house.
“We are dedicated to ensuring a door to door experience for fans, with extra transport to be provided. We have also set up Fan Zones at Gates 7 and 19 that will be open one and a half hours prior to bounce down, providing a great opportunity for fans to soak up the finals at the stadium with live entertainment, a range of food options, big screens and bars.”
“We have a great working relationship with both teams and are set to support their members and corporate supporters to ensure we deliver a great experience, combined with a unique home team advantage.
“In excess of an estimated $1 million earned from these events will go back into grass-roots community football, ensuring the West Australian Football Commission continues to develop the game in Western Australia.”
Taylor emphasises that at all events the security and safety of all fans is top priority, with a specialist security team being brought in for the finals and a medical presence to suit full-capacity crowds.
He adds “there will be additional security teams at each of this weekend’s AFL Finals including metal detection scanning teams on gate entries plus dedicated mobile response teams to provide support for the 200+ security staff stationed at key points around the stadium.
“There will also be increased vigilance on bag screening and security checking processes at all entry points and fans are encouraged to get to the stadium as early as possible as entry could take more time than usual.
“We work closely with the AFL to ensure we have best practice procedures for handling anti-social behaviour. Noticeably intoxicated fans will be denied entry or removed from the stadium as per normal policy.
“Racial comments will also not be tolerated at the stadium. We would like to remind fans that they can contact venue management on game days to report any issues via the SMS your SOS system.”
Perth Stadium Management also urge fans to only buy tickets via Ticketmaster or via Gate 8 at Domain Stadium, this being the only way to guarantee access to Domain Stadium on match day.
The venue managers stress that fans not purchase tickets from any other source, as it is possible there may be multiple versions of that ticket circulating and they will not gain entry to the venue as a result.
Ticket prices have remained unchanged from last year.
Perth Stadium Management is a strategic alliance between the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC), Delaware North, Live Nation and Ticketmaster.
