read moreNow in its seventh year, the popular Darwin Street Art Festival will return 28th August to 15th September highlighting home-grown talent as well as showcasing national and international artists.
International talent includes including Dublin’s Aches, who is well-known for producing large scale psychedelic murals around the world. The Irish creative will join Australian artists including Adnate, Filthy Ratbag, Jeswri, Gonketa, and Kitt Bennett.
Local Darwin artists featuring in the line-up include Jason Lee, Jesse Bell and Tisha Tejaya.
Festival Director, David Collins shares “the Gallery meets the streets again for the seventh year, and it just keeps getting better. We had a great response to the artist and wall callouts, and we can’t wait to announce even more exciting artists in the coming weeks.
“We’re proud to have over 50% local artists painting again in 2023 - a line-up which is further energised by some big names from interstate and across the world.
“In 2023 we’ll see some epic murals, more emerging artist pop-ups, interactive workshops, exhibitions – and a lot of fun. Darwin is about to get a whole lot more colourful.”
This year’s program includes many firsts for the festival such as an exclusive screening of 'Girl Power' - a compelling documentary that presents female graffiti writers from fifteen cities, exhibitions from Papa New Guinean street and contemporary artists, and the very first solo exhibition from emerging Darwin street photographer Migardo Ellaga.
NT Minister for Business, Jobs and Training, Paul Kirby notes “the festival has helped transform the streets of Darwin through vibrant and colourful street art building year upon year, and truly unleashing the creative identity of the city.
“It makes our beautiful city all the more beautiful, while providing blank canvasses for our artists to hone their craft, have a bit of fun, and create a unique attraction for tourists and locals to indulge upon.
“Darwin Street Art Festival also generates more foot traffic into our CBD, which means residents and visitors are supporting our local businesses and keeping our economy turning.”
The first release of the program is now live on the Darwin Street Art Festival website, with more exciting announcements to come.
The Darwin Street Art Festival is funded by the Northern Territory Government through Activate Darwin, and delivered by local business Proper Creative.
