Convic designs new Invercargill skate park
Invercargill City Council is redeveloping its skate park with the aim offering a new, multi purpose skate park which could be used by riders of scooters, skateboards and BMX bikes.
Explaining the $750,000 redevelopment, which is expected to be completed by the end of May, Invercargill City Council Community Development Manager Mary Napper stated that "the existing park and the entire site will be closed during the construction period."
Work on the project will be undertaken by Hunter Civil Projects Limited, which had partnered exclusively with Convic to complete the design of the skate park.
Napper stated "having Convic as the designers (is) tremendous for Southland, as they are a well-respected international design company."
Commenting on a recent meeting of skate park users, which included those who use skateboards, scooters and BMX bikes and associated adults, where the design was presented, Napper added "it was unanimously agreed that the plan was excellent, that it met the needs of all users and all skill levels.
"The plans include a drinking fountain, CCTV and lighting."
Convic are recognised as leaders in skate park design and development and recently undertook the design of the Washington Reserve Skate Park in Christchurch.
