read moreWorks have commenced on Perth's newest family-friendly beach and 50-metre coastal pool, marking an important step in the delivery of the $272.3 million transformation of the new Ocean Reef Marina – anticipated to open to the public in 2026.
With more than 7,500 tonnes of sand to be put into place, the new beach and pool will transform the area into a vibrant central recreation hub for water-based activities. Both the 150-metre family-friendly beach and coastal pool will be built with shark net protection.
In addition, five hectares of community-accessible open space and recreation reserves will include landscaped parklands, a waterfront promenade and coastal shared path for walking and cycling, and purpose-built recreational areas enhanced with native plants.
A vibrant ocean-themed Beach Playground, inspired by the area's maritime heritage, will also be constructed, including a giant lobster, boats, waves, shaded seating, changerooms, and inclusive features for children of all abilities. A nearby bike pump track and expansive central parklands are also underway, forming part of the Stage 1 works led by Georgiou Group.
Construction of the new headquarters for Marine Rescue Whitfords and new Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club facilities, which are being delivered by Byte Construct, are also on track for delivery in 2025.
The marine rescue facility, a purpose-built two-storey building, will integrate training, administration and equipment spaces, along with state-of-the-art communication systems. For the first time, three rescue vessels will be permanently moored at the marina, ensuring rapid response capabilities and bolstering safety for northern metro water users.
The major redevelopment is one of the most significant projects underway in Western Australia. As well as recreational facilities and community spaces, Ocean Reef Marina is set to deliver more than 1,000 new residential dwellings, offering a range of housing options including single residential homes and apartments.
It will also offer an array of shopping, dining and entertainment options to residents, visitors and tourists, with up to 12,000 square metres of retail and commercial floor space, and more than five hectares of community space.
