read moreLast Friday (20th November) saw the start of works at the $32.5 million Craigieburn Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre project, a state-of-the-art community facility that will include a fitness centre, health and wellness centre and indoor aquatic space.
The facility will feature a 10-lane 50 metre competition pool, slides and water play area, gym, hot water program pool, steam and spa.
The Hume City Council project has benefitted from a grant of $9,081,925 from the Federal Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund (NSRF) and has also received $3 million from Victoria’s Better Pools Fund, resulting in a total funding allocation to the project of $12.08 million towards the project.
The Council is committing $14.3 million to the project contributors Stockland and Lend Lease to provide $5.7 million and $360,000 respectively.
Mayor of Hume City Council Helen Patsikatheodorou, who was also onsite to celebrate start of works on the water park, welcomed the partnership with the Australian Government to deliver the community infrastructure project and looked forward to an even stronger partnership over the next year.
Mayor Patsikatheodorou stated “congratulations to everyone involved for getting this project moving and thinking long-term for our community.”
Commenting on the NSRF, acting Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss stated “the Fund will provide $1 billion over five years to support priority infrastructure projects like this one in regional communities across Australia.”
Construction on the Craigieburn Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre is expected to be completed in February 2017.
Adco is undertaking the construction of the facility, to a design by Peddle Thorp Architects.
