Christchurch Council facilities close as most of New Zealand to go into COVID Alert Level 3

Christchurch Council facilities close as most of New Zealand to go into COVID Alert Level 3
August 30, 2021

Many of Christchurch Council facilities will close as, along with most in New Zealand, they go into Alert Level 3 from 11.59pm Tuesday, 31st August.

Council parks are open but playgrounds, exercise equipment, water fountains, car parks and public toilets remain closed and have been taped off.

The Botanic Gardens will remain closed under Alert Level 3 due to the highly infectious nature of the Delta variant. This will enable skeleton staff crews to maintain key plant collections safely for when we drop to Alert Levels 2 and 1.

Council’s pools and recreation centres remain closed under Alert Level 3 with Council delivering popular live stream fitness classes on Facebook until centres reopen. Participation in the classes is via the Christchurch Recreation and Sport Facebook page. Memberships will be frozen and Concession Cards extended while our centres are closed.

If you're taking your dog out for a walk under Alert Level 3, Council advise to keep them leashed at all times, even in dog parks to reduce the contact between dogs and other owners.

During Alert Level 3, gatherings of up to 10 people can continue, but only for Wedding services, funerals and tangihanga with all other events and gatherings cancelled or postponed until further notice.
