read moreCharles Darwin University (CDU) has partnered with Northern Territory Cricket to highlight their shared vision in positioning and showcasing the Territory on a global stage as the ideal place to work, study, live and play.
The partnership sees CDU as the naming rights partner of the CDU Strike League and CDU Top End Series as part of the 2022 Cricket 365 program.
Following the success of Cricket 365 in 2021, this year’s program will enable some of the best emerging players from around Australia to capitalise on the dry season conditions and play cricket year-round without having to leave Australian shores.
CDU Vice-Chancellor Scott Bowman said the partnership would support CDU in reaching international markets to attract students to study in Australia and promote the liveability of the Territory.
Professor Bowman enthused “we’re delighted to be part of the supporting Territory cricket getting the recognition it deserves across the country – and to the rest of the world.
“By promoting Darwin as a top destination to visit and enjoy cricket, we can showcase the Territory as the ideal place to study, work and live.
“The global broadcast of these matches will help CDU promote study opportunities to potential students in key international markets.”
The program aims to showcase and develop Australia’s emerging stars, enhance the development of Territory players, coaches and officials, and showcase Darwin and Palmerston as a destination.
The CDU Strike League is a prelude to the major cricket event of the dry season, the CDU Top End T20, which will see the Northern Territory Strike take on Papua New Guinea, a Cricket Australia XI, and academy teams from Big Bash League clubs, the Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars.
NT Cricket Chief Executive Joel Morrison said he was pleased with the evolution of the program following last year’s successful launch and added “having Australia’s best young players in Darwin and Palmerston over winter allows them to pursue an endless summer to develop their game and thrive.
“Our partnership with CDU centres on this opportunity, with both NT Cricket and CDU having a shared vision to showcase the Territory as a leading destination to live, study, work and play, to a global audience.”
