read moreCarlile Swimming, one of Australia's premier swim school organisations, is this week supplementing its regular swim classes, with the 'SwimSAFER Water Safety Week', focusing on emergency planning.
Sourcing 900 Swim Australia CPR Mates, Carlile hope the week's activities, being held from 19th to 25th November, will not only help to ensure their swimmers are safer in, on and around water, but are aware of what to do in case of an emergency.
In addition to an instructional video, each of the swim schools will have several CPR Mates on pool deck for children and adults to use. Raffles will be drawn on the half hour, giving away CPR Mate devices, to further support the cause.
The CPR Mate is a cost effective way, of educating people, and allowing them to practice compression, or hands-only, CPR. Compression only CPR is recognised by all international resuscitation councils, including the Australian Resuscitation Council.
Carlile Swimming Head of Learning & Development Dave DuBois believes that having an emergency action plan in place is a crucial consideration, especially when around water. He says this element should be applied in conjunction with the other SwimSAFER layers of protection - Supervision, Barriers and Swimming Lessons.
DuBois explains "knowing how to potentially save someone's life is a fundamental skill, no matter your age. Having the opportunity to use the CPR Mate at the pool, will allow the whole family an opportunity to gain hands-on, practical experience, and advance their CPR skills."
Swim Australia Chief Executive Ross Gage suggests that while everyone should learn, and be accredited in CPR by an accredited provider, the CPR Mate is an ideal way for everyone to practice and retain the vital skills.
