As reported by AFL.com.au, the fixtures are part of a partnership between AFL Premiers the Western Bulldogs and the Ballarat City Council. Back in 2015, the Bulldogs committed to a five year partnership promising to take AFL Premiership fixtures, pre-season games and community programs to Ballarat and surrounding regions.
Ballarat Mayor Samantha McIntosh told AFL.com.au that the $31.5 million redeveloped stadium will hold more than one match after 2017, stating “the stadium will host two premiership games in 2018, we are all so looking at hosting pre-season games as well as the potential for AFLW games in the 2018 season.”
Construction of a 5,000-seat undercover grandstand is due to be completed before the stadium hosts next year’s Bulldogs-Port Adelaide clash.
A 50 metre² video scoreboard will also be erected at the stadium.
Mayor McIntosh added “the cost of the video scoreboard has been met by the state government as part of its funding commitment to upgrade the ground to AFL standard, and the video scoreboard will be installed early next year.”
