AMPSEA partners with Sportscover to deliver National Insurance Scheme
December 22, 2021

The Australian Mass Participation Sporting Events Alliance (AMPSEA) has appointed leading industry insurer Sportscover to launch and run a national insurance scheme for the mass participation sector.

The scheme includes two insurances to event organisers who are AMPSEA members, with both policies calculated on a per participant basis.

1. Public Liability (PL) Insurance ($20 million cover)
$1.60/ participant for the first 1,000 participants
$1.00/participant for participants 1,001+

2. Personal Accident (PA) Insurance
$2.00/participant

PA cover is only available if PL cover has been taken, with event operators able to choose to take out public liability cover only, or both public liability and personal accident cover together.
Pricing includes a small revenue portion for AMPSEA.

Sportscover looks to to help Australia’s sports clubs financially recover
An established insurer providing coverage to the industry for over 35 years, last month Sportscover Australia launched an initiative to support the grass roots sporting community get back on its feet in a post pandemic world.

Named ‘Blue Sky Assist’, the initiative provides a range of benefits to sports clubs and their members, including a significant new revenue initiative.

The background to ‘Blue Sky Assist’ is that since early 2020, many clubs amd sports have suffered from the compounding impacts of bushfires, floods, plague and now the pandemic.

Clubs have reported substantial losses in revenue due to sponsorships, fundraising and membership income all disappearing, an increase in admin fees with imposed COVID rules and regulations and a drastic drop in volunteer support. This has resulted in a 43% and 40% decline in sport participation across the country in adults and teens respectively and the closure of many clubs nationally, with predicted long-term negative impacts on the mental and physical health of Australians.

Sportscover Chief Executive, Simon Allatson, commented “Sportscover has demonstrated its commitment to Australian sport over a long period. When the pandemic landed on top of nature’s impacts, we needed to find a further way to help clubs recover. Blue Sky Assist will aid clubs at community level to get back on their feet financially, so they can continue to provide the means for us all to enjoy our sport”.
