The Western Australian Government has committed $3.3 million for significant upgrades at Torndirrup National Park this year to accommodate increasing visitation to the parks at The Gap and Natural Bridge.

Known for its spectacular coastline, turquoise water, and granite cliffs, 'The Gap' offers visitors panoramic views of the park's rugged coastal scenery.

The commitment - which forms phase two of the State Government's 'Torndirrup National Park improvement project' - will involve:

• An increase in parking spaces to accommodate for 60 additional vehicles;
• Redevelopment of roads to provide smoother, safer access between sites; and
• Installation of toilets for visitors to 'The Gap's' iconic picnicking area.

WA Environment Minister Reece Whitby shared "It's clear to see how special 'The Gap' and 'Natural Bridge' are for Albany with the breathtaking, uninterrupted views of the coastline.

"About 430,000 people visit Torndirrup National Park every year.

"These works are designed to provide an unforgettable experience for those visitors, who in turn will give back to the local economy, and create employment opportunities for Western Australians and local businesses."

Contracts for the carpark upgrades are due to be announced soon with construction of the bays and access road set to commence in July, minimising the effect works may have on visitation and local operators.
