Adventure attractions planned for Flinders Ranges

Adventure attractions planned for Flinders Ranges
November 8, 2012

Adventure tourism and Geotourism will be the focus of new tourism products to be developed for the Flinders Ranges, thanks to Australian Government T-QUAL Grants funding.

The Flinders Ranges National Landscape Steering Committee, chaired by Julie Smith, this week launched its Operator Upskilling project, funded under the Australia's National Landscapes Strategic Tourism Investment Grants (STIG) program.

The project will provide workshops to help tourism operators in the Flinders Ranges develop new experiences largely focused on adventure and geotourism.

Federal Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson congratulated the committee on a successful launch and contribution it would make to local tourism employment, stating "the Flinders Ranges is one of 13 National Landscapes sharing in $1 million funding under the STIG Program to boost tourism experiences in some of Australia's most beautiful landscapes.

"I am pleased to see the hard work that has gone into the development of this project to assist local tourism operators deliver quality experiences sought by visitors to the Flinders Ranges.

"Importantly, this project is a good example of effective partnerships between all levels of government and industry to help tourism contribute more to regional economic development.

"The Commonwealth's contribution of $103,000 in STIG funding is matched by local councils, the South Australian Tourism Commission and Regional Development Australia bringing the total project value to $206,000."

The Australia's National Landscapes STIG Project aims to build capacity and address supply-side issues facing the tourism industry and contribute to achieving Tourism 2020 goals.

Managed by Tourism Australia and Parks Australia, Australia's National Landscapes is a unique partnership that aims to achieve environmental, social, and economic outcomes for Australia's most significant natural areas and their surrounding regions.

The National Landscapes STIG Program was announced by Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson on 6th July 2012.
