360 Fitness Club to expand wellness services and capacity of Learn to Swim School

360 Fitness Club to expand wellness services and capacity of Learn to Swim School
March 20, 2025

To ensure that it continues to meet members’ needs into the future, Tamworth's 360 Fitness Club AU is planning a major renovation to reconfigure the lap pool in their indoor aquatic centre and to introduce a new suite of wellness and recovery services, while also expanding the capacity of learn to swim and their health clinic.

The upgraded club will offer more services and even better value for money. Construction would happen in 2026, so no changes are planned for the near future. Works would also be staged so members will always have access to the gym, classes and at least one of the pools.

360 owners Dwone Jones (DJ) and Jay recognise that “fitness is becoming one part of a healthy lifestyle that includes therapies focusing on mental wellbeing, injury prevention and recovery. People want to feel good and set themselves up to live well for longer.”

When DJ and Jay built 360 Fitness Club they advise “Tamworth Regional Council told us they had long-standing plans to build an Indoor Aquatic Centre, but they would not include a gym in the development.”

On the 360 Fitness Club website DJ and Jay note “Council has since changed its mind, and their new plans include every fitness service we currently offer alongside the indoor pools. Council told us last year that they’re expecting to open the new facility in mid-2026. We believe an Indoor Aquatic Centre will be a valuable addition to the Tamworth region, but we also recognise that Council’s decision to mimic our business model will put more pressure on our club.

“We expect all the swim squads and almost all of Tamworth’s competitive lap swimmers to move to the new facility when it opens. Sadly, our lap pool already operates at a loss even with the support of all of Tamworth’s winter swimmers, due to the high cost of heating and chemicals. As wonderful as this new Aquatic Centre will be for Tamworth, we know the scale of the development also means our lap pool will no longer be viable, and we are realistic about the impact on our business if we were to do nothing.

“Instead, we are looking at this situation as an excellent opportunity to introduce a greater range of health and wellness services that people are already enjoying in the USA and metro areas in Australia, as well as expand the capacity of our Learn to Swim School (which has more demand than we have spots available) and 360 Health Clinic.”

As such, DJ and Jay advise they will soon be submitting the following plans:

  • Reconfigure their lap pool to a smaller, dedicated warm-water Learn to Swim pool. This will include two lanes (17.5m long) for stroke development classes and any members who want to swim outside of our Swim School sessions. This new pool will allow an increase in the number of places offered in their Swim School.
  • The existing warm-water pool will stay the same. Moving most Swim School classes to the new pool will allow an expansion of the therapy programs and aqua classes.
  • A new wet wellness area that includes a cold plunge pool, a hot pool, and separate wet saunas in both the male and female bathrooms. These services will be included in standard memberships.
  • A new dry wellness area that includes services at an added cost such as Infrared Saunas, massages and compression boots.
  • Upgraded bathrooms.
  • New consolidated location for 360 Health Clinic, featuring offices and specialist exercise equipment.
  • Moving and enlarging Studio 361.
  • Expanding Reformer Pilates studio.
  • Upgrading appearance inside the club.

DJ and Jay added “we have put the leasehold for Hopscotch Restaurant & Bar on the market and would use the proceeds to help fund this project.

“We expect our plans to take a significant amount of time to be approved through Council, and they may change as we go. We will keep you updated along the way.

“Construction would largely happen in 2026, after our next Members’ Day event. Work will be staged so members and our Swim School will continue to be able to access one of the pools during construction.

“We appreciate your support. We’re looking forward to offering you an even better health and wellness experience into the future.”

360 Fitness Club opened its revamped aquatic, fitness and recreation facility for the Tamworth region of Northern NSW in 2014.
