YMCA NSW Chief Executive to take part in the Vinnes CEO Sleepout

YMCA NSW Chief Executive to take part in the Vinnes CEO Sleepout
June 1, 2016

YMCA NSW Chief Executive Leisa Hart will join other senior executives from across the country this month and spend a night on the streets as part of the St Vincent De Paul CEO Sleepout.

The annual event highlights the plight of the 100,000 Australians who experience homelessness each night.

As the head of an organisation with a mission to create better opportunities and safer environments for young and disadvantaged people, it’s a cause close to her heart.

Commenting on her involvement, Hart stated “YMCA NSW is passionate about building healthier, happier connected communities for all. We advocate on behalf of children, young people, and vulnerable adults to create safe environments,” explains Leisa.

“Of particular concern to me is the fact that 17% of Australia’s homeless are under 12 years of age. That is simply unacceptable. As a mother, I cannot imagine not being able to find shelter and food for my daughter, nieces and nephew.

“Homelessness is one of the most pressing social issues we face today, and we can’t build thriving communities unless we tackle it head on.

“In my role I am committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children is prioritised above all else – that is why doing the Vinnies Sleepout is so important to me.”

Now in its 10th year, the CEO Sleepout has raised over $30 million to provide crucial assistance to people experiencing homelessness across Australia.

The event is being held on Thursday 23rd June.
