read moreWith arts and culture being considered as a catalyst for activation in open space design and planning, an upcoming seminar at the State Library of Western Australia in Perth will consider the need to strategically plan, consider and justify the inclusion of art by open space and recreation planners and urban designers and activators.
Being held on Thursday 20th August by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) and Parks and Leisure Australia (Western Australia) will cover the unquantified need to include public art, interpretative/information signage, flexible park furniture, water fountains and social spaces (human and animal) where the community gathers, connects and creates social capital.
The seminar will look at areas designed and built for social interaction and gathering in all aspects of the urban environment and their increasing inclusion in the planning and design of public domains.
The event is aimed at open space planners, landscape architects, urban designers, culture and event professionals, community development officers, managers of parks and open spaces, local government officers, elected members and those who are responsible or contribute to the planning and activation of open space, public art, history and/or cultural events.
