Symposium looks to address issues of inactivity and inequality in Western Sydney

Symposium looks to address issues of inactivity and inequality in Western Sydney
October 3, 2023

A new event aimed at tackling inactivity and inequalities in Western Sydney is set to be staged at the new Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub in November.

The Western Sydney (WSYD) Moving Symposium is a groundbreaking ‘whole of system’ initiative dedicated to creating more active lives in Western Sydney, the event, being held on 16th November, will bring together a diverse range of participants, including community members, industry leaders, and experts from fields including health, sport, education and government.

Hosted by Collective Leisure, the socially conscious enterprise committed to reducing health inequalities within our communities, the WSYD Moving Symposium is designed to showcase excellence, foster connections across diverse ecosystems, provide valuable professional development opportunities and to chart pathways to reduce inactivity and health inequalities in Western Sydney.

Explaining the challenge, Collective Leisure Chief Executive and co-founder, David Burns (pictured) advises “physical inactivity is recognised by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a global public health concern.

“WSYD Moving is tackling this global priority at a local level.

“In Western Sydney residents face disproportionately higher levels of chronic diseases compared to other parts of Australia. Physical activity is known to reduce the risk of developing many chronic diseases while improving overall health and well-being.”

The WSYD Moving Symposium will include engaging panel discussions to foster cross-sector dialogue and collaboration, insightful keynote sessions, exploring how personal change drives systemic transformation, visionary discussions on shaping a more active future for Western Sydney, opportunities to connect with fellow stakeholders in the physical activity sector and an exclusive tour of the state-of-the-art BEST facility, opening in October 2023.
