Sport NZ invests $2.9 million in active recreation
Sport NZ is allocating $2.9 million in the active/outdoor recreation sector for the two year period from 1st July 2013 to 30th June 2015.
This allocation period of two years aligns with the 2015 completion of Sport New Zealand's Strategic Plan.
Of the $1.45 million available for investment per annum, $750,000 will be allocated through a contestable process while the non-contestable fund will be allocated primarily to the sector's two lead organisations, the New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) and Outdoors New Zealand (ONZ).
The outcomes sought from that investment are leadership, advocacy and professional development on behalf of the sector.
The contestable process is open to any organisation that can demonstrate that it can contribute to active recreation outcomes.
Here, priority will be given to applications that deliver active recreation outcomes in a collaborative manner through the establishment of effective partnerships along with national and regional organisations.
Sport NZ is seeking applications to the contestable fund that will lead to increased long-term participation by young people, through developing the skills and knowledge of deliverers and/ or participants of active recreation.
In this regard, a statement from Sport NZ stresses "we're not seeking proposals to create more participation opportunities, unless they are directly connected with the development of skills and knowledge of either the delivers and/or participants of active recreation."
In addition, Sport NZ will not consider applications for facility and amenity development.
Applicants wanting to obtain funding through the contestable investment process need to submit an EOI template available on the Sport NZ website before 25th February 2013.
Thereafter, the timetable is:
20th March 2013: Sport NZ will advise all applicants if their EOI has been accepted or declined;
6th May 2013: Full and detailed applications must be lodged with Sport NZ by those applicants whose EOI has been accepted;
30th May 2013: Sport NZ will advise applicants if their full application was successful or not;
1st June to 30th June 2013: KPIs and schedules will be negotiated and finalised
1st July 2013: Contestable investment available for distribution to those successful applicants that have agreed investment schedules in place with Sport NZ
Applicants may be asked to meet with Sport NZ to discuss their applications further. This will depend on the size and nature of the proposed initiatives.
