The Environmental Health Association (Australia) [EHA] is holding a one-day seminar exploring the optimum use of water in aquatic and recreation facilities and the operation and management of water spray grounds/splash pads.

With water spray grounds/splash pads growing in poularity, Sid Brodie of the Western Australian Department of Health (DoH) will explain new DoH guidelines for maintaining water quality in water spray grounds/splash pads while Mark Harper of AVP Constructions will cover construction and operational issues.

The seminar will also feature presentations on:

• Introducing Recreational Waters - Jared Koutsoukos (DoH)
• Local Government Water Sampling - Rod Fielding, City of Rockingham and John Burton, City of Melville
• Faecal Indicators in Recreational Waters Sampling - Dr Richard Lugg, Water Consultant. Dr Lugg will discuss faecal indicators used for microbiological sampling and will present an overview of the appropriate indicators most beneficial for sampling by local governments.

The seminar will also see Western Australian Minister for Sport and Recreation Terry Waldron launch the new leisure industry water optimisation calculator (LIWOC) while then be demonstrated by Dr David Deeley of the WA Centre for Sport and Recreation Research.

LIWOC is a software tool that allows managers to determine potential savings in dollars and resources when looking at minor and major changes to water management in their facilities.

Being held on Tuesday 16th August at the Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle; the seminar is being staged in conjunction with the LIWA Aquatics state conference.

Delegates will have direct access to the LIWA exhibitions and will have the opportunity to join in with the LIWA conference delegates for a combined luncheon and networking session after the seminar.
