Safety review for New Zealand adventure tourism operators

Safety review for New Zealand adventure tourism operators
October 30, 2015

As the peak summer season is getting underway, adventure tourism and outdoor operators are being urged to review their safety management systems.

To aid this process, the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand is offering a series of free, half-day workshops around the country through November and early December that will focus on safety systems for adventure and outdoor operators. The workshops will be useful to all operators working in the adventure and outdoor sector, not only those covered by the Adventure Activities Regulations.

Attendees will find out about:

• Practical tools to ensure their safety management systems are effective
• Tools to help with incident management, safety meetings and safety assurance
• Ideas to improve their safety systems
• Safety leadership tips to maximise staff support
• Tips and lessons from other operators’ experiences

Each workshop will be followed by an optional two-hour session for operators who would like more individualised support with development and implementation of their safety management systems.

These workshops complement a series of adventure safety workshops held earlier this year. Those who attended the previous workshops will learn new information, while those who could not make the earlier dates will definitely find benefits for their business practices.

Workshop dates and locations:

• Queenstown – 16th November
• Christchurch – 30th November
• Nelson – 1st December
• Paihia – 2nd December
• Auckland – 3rd December
• Rotorua – 4th December
