Murray comes with more than two decades of senior management experience in sport, media and entertainment having built a reputation of achieving transformational commercial outcomes across a long list of leading Australian brands.
Murray joins Rugby Australia after four years as General Manager Commercial and Marketing for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC), where he drove the highly-successful ticketing strategy for the event which was attended by over 1.2 million people in April this year.
As well as a proven track record in sport, Murray has an extensive background in television sales and marketing and has held key leadership positions within the Nine Network in Australia and Prime Television in New Zealand.
His career in the media began at Nine in 1992, and after being promoted to Sales Director within five years he ventured across the Tasman and spearheaded the revival of Prime TV New Zealand as its Chief Executive in the early 2000s, before returning to Australia to head up Nine’s Queensland operations.
Afterwards he joined global media agency Boost Media International, managing its operations across Australia and South-East Asia.
Throughout his career Murray has been involved in the negotiation of major broadcast deals and brings to Rugby deep insights into broadcasting operations and strong networks in tier-one media.
He also served as General Manager Commercial and Special Projects at NRL club the Gold Coast Titans where he developed the club’s commercial program including its sponsorship, ticketing and membership programs during its formative years.
Announcing the appointment, Rugby Australia Chief Executive, Raelene Castle stated “Cameron is a very experienced senior executive who comes with a specific blend of skills that will enable us to take our commercial program to the next level.
“He has driven transformational outcomes for the businesses he has led and has strong relationships across both the sports and media industries which positions him well to take on a very important role within Rugby Australia.
“Cameron will provide strong leadership across Rugby Australia’s commercial program, including our partnerships, marketing and operations teams and we look forward to officially welcoming him into the role at the end of July.”
Murray will officially commence in the position on 30th July.
