Royal Life Saving WA honouring community heroes
The Royal Life Saving WA team has celebrated the exceptional work of community trainers at a recent Honours Awards breakfast held at Joondalup Resort.
Between January and December 2017 our community trainers delivered 12,171 courses across Western Australia, teaching more than 30,000 West Australians vital first aid and lifesaving skills and helping to ensure that the organisation’s motto ‘Everyone Can Be a Lifesaver’ is a reality.
A statement from Royal Life Saving WA advised “our trainers come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and range in age from just 19 years old to 76 years old (and) 72% of these trainers are women.
“Two dedicated heroes awarded at the recent event included Michael Phillips, who was awarded the WA Meritorious Service Order for his work with Royal Life Saving Society WA. Michael has been a First Aid Trainer since 1999 delivering First aid courses for Ocean Reef Senior High School. This will be Michael’s last year delivering courses before retiring from teaching.
“Long-time Royal Life Saving WA hero Sallie Watson won the national Australian Meritorious Service Order from Royal Life Saving Australia. For over 15 years Sallie has been a dedicated Lifesaving advocate, working with lake Joondalup Baptist College where she's keen to ensure the next generation learns lifesaving skills.
“Congratulations to our awardees and to all our hardworking trainers and lifesavers state and nation wide - you do us all proud.”
