The newly upgraded track incorporates the latest international design and construction to help Australian riders improve their riding and skillset in the pursuit of Olympic glory.
Sleeman Sports Complex General Manager, Alex Hutchison said the new track would test some of the world’s best riders at the upcoming 2024 UCI BMX Racing World Cup (Rounds 3 and 4) and 2026 UCI BMX Racing World Championships and was also expected to host Brisbane 2032 BMX events.
Hutchison enthused “we’re excited to open the new Brisbane SX - International BMX Centre and give riders the opportunity to practice at a world-class facility ahead of the jam-packed upcoming international and national BMX Racing calendar.
“The track new design is in line with the latest international design and construction trends, which will help local and national riders continue to improve their riding and skillset in the pursuit of Olympic glory.
“The upgrade elevates Brisbane SX to be the newest Supercross track in Australia and one of the newest on the international racing circuit next year and will challenge the best riders from around the world, whilst providing the perfect platform to build skill sets.
“The centre features international standard 5 metre and 8 metre start ramps, decoders on each hill and finish line, lighting for day and night use, new timing loops throughout the facility and improved spectator pathways and viewing areas, so there’s never been a better time to get into BMX.”
AusCycling Pathway Manager, Luke Madill said the new changes to the Brisbane SX International BMX Centre have been welcomed by riders and will add a new flow and feel to the track.
Madill added “The upgraded second, third and fourth straight will make for some exciting racing with the newly shaped corners providing greater options for passing and carrying higher speeds,” Mr Madill said.
“The track still has its key crowd-pleaser second straight pro jumps, but overall has a faster technical finish for riders of all levels.
“The track as always presents at a high standard, but I feel these new changes have created the fresh look and feel in time for the riders to be ready for next year’s World Cup and I am looking forward to seeing the world's best go head-to-head with our Australian riders.”
