Ewing Park is home to the United Cricket Club, Sandhurst Junior Football Club and St Therese’s Junior Football Club who will utilise the space in Spring once grass coverage has been established and restrictions ease.
City of Greater Bendigo Active and Healthy Manager, Lincoln Fitzgerald said the stage one works have included major earthworks to construct a new oval and synthetic walking/running track around the perimeter of the oval.
Fitzgerald advised “we have also installed a new picket fence around the oval and training standard lighting.
“We are now establishing grass on the oval and finalising some minor completion works so it is ready during the cricket season.
“This is an exciting project which is greatly improving Ewing Park and will expand on the range of recreation activities available to the wider community within the precinct for the future.
Fitzgerald added “design is underway for the next stage of redevelopment. The project targets casual and parkland use of the site and will include construction of a new district level skate and scooter park. The skate park will feature elements suitable for skateboards and scooters including a mini bowl.
“Further stages will include construction of a learn-to-ride park featuring a roundabout, pedestrian crossings, line markings and road signs to provide a safe place for adults and children to develop the skills they need to ride safety and independently on roads and paths, installation of new outdoor fitness equipment and a regional cycling trail wayfinding hub.
“These facilities will be integrated to create a wheeled sports facility to suit all non-motorised equipment such as scooters, skateboards, roller skates, in-line skates and all forms of cycling.
“The new trail hub will feature a shelter, new public toilet and information on Bendigo’s shared trail network. Other works include the creation of a path network and formal car parking along Harcourt Street and Havlin Street West.”
